Auction Guidance

Adam Green Art Advisory represents collectors at auction, advising on both acquisitions and consignments with an insider’s understanding of how auction houses operate.

For collectors bidding at auction, Adam advises on every stage of the process. Before the sale, he evaluates the work itself: its quality within the artist’s practice, condition, provenance, and its actual market value. He then develops a bidding strategy, including a disciplined maximum, informed by the demand he anticipates for the work. During the sale, Adam can bid on his clients’ behalf, ensuring decisions remain strategic in a setting designed to encourage the opposite.

For collectors consigning works to auction, the terms negotiated before the sale often matter as much as the hammer price. Adam advises on which auction house and which sale is right for the work, negotiates favorable consignment terms on the client’s behalf, and works with the house on estimates, marketing, and placement within the sale to position the work for the strongest result.

Adam began his career at Christie’s, where nearly a decade inside one of the world’s leading auction houses provided a working knowledge of how sales are built, how estimates are set, and how houses negotiate. That perspective, from the other side of the rostrum, informs the guidance his clients receive.
